Today’s cars often tell us when we need to head to our ASE certified mechanic by illuminating a warning light. However, not all the parts of our car have associated warning systems. With a little knowledge and by simply knowing your car, you can often tell when there’s something not quite right. We’re going to cover some of the things you should know about the signs your car may give you that indicated you need an ASE mechanic.
Your Exhaust
When your car is operating properly, you won’t see your exhaust. When you notice blue, black or white exhaust smoke, you need an exhaust repair shop. Blue smoke often indicated and oil leak. Black can mean many things but most are in your engine. White is often an issue within your cooling system because white smoke is really condensation.
Thumping While Driving
Do you hear a thumping noise while you’re driving? Does it sound like it’s coming from one corner of your car? You likely need your tires rotated. However, if you haven’t ever had them rotated, it may be too late and you may actually need new tires. Don’t ignore this warning sign as you could end up with a blowout in the near future.
A Car that Continues to Bounce After Hitting a Bump
There’s no warning light when you have an issue with your shocks or struts. Your car’s shocks are intended to minimize bouncing even after you go over a bump or into a pothole. If you ignore this, not only will your tires wear out faster, but you’ll end up with a costlier repair.
