It’s the time of year we hear from so many people that their car’s AC isn’t quite right. As car air conditioning repair experts, we know that the signs are many and if you catch some of them right away, you may save yourself hundreds in repair costs. Here are some things to look for that signal it’s time to have your air conditioning worked on.
Low Air Flow
There are a few reasons that the air may not be coming out of the vents as fast as it once did. Perhaps the least expensive is when the reduced air flow comes from a loose hose. Other reasons, that tend to cost more include a dead fan, blown seals or a problem with your evaporator core. You’ll want your car air conditioning repair center to make any of these repairs.
It Doesn’t Get as Cool as it Once Did
This is common and general is a sign of a leak somewhere in your AC system. However, it can also be a sign of a problem with the blower motor, compressor, evaporator or just about any other part of your air conditioning system. Sadly, this is often an expensive repair.
Smelly Air
If the air blowing out of your vents smells it might be an easy fix, especially if that’s the only symptom you notice. Chances are good you’ve not changed your cabin air filter. In most vehicles, this is an easy thing to do yourself. Pull out your owner’s manual and look for the location and see if yours is dirty. If it is, you can order replacement ones online or head to your local parts store for a replacement.
If the filter is new or looks good, you might have an issue in your evaporator. Sometimes a blocked drain will lead to the accumulation of mold and mildew which leads to smelly air. You’ll need your car air conditioning repair center to help with that.
Neglect May Not Show a Sign
The air conditioning system in your car is as complex as that in your home and just like the Freon or Puron in your home’s AC, your car has refrigerant. It should be regularly maintained and inspected. The refrigerant can break down. When it breaks down the air conditioning compressor ends up with wear and before you know it, your car’s AC is done. A little preventative maintenance with an inspection by your car’s air conditioning repair shop can prevent a big expense.
